Our therapists always prioritize the interaction and relationship between patients and therapists.  Typically there is increased engagement with teletherapy with patients under 30 since this generation has grown up with technology and are comfortable with it.  The activities are no different from what the therapist would be doing with the patient in a traditional office setting. The therapist and client can always see each other live and on screen regardless of what activities they are doing if they choose to use video.

Teletherapy is typically done with people who are not currently in crisis.  Online/phone therapy has been successfully used to treat a variety of diagnoses, from anxiety and depression to trauma, addiction, and family difficulties.  People who have scheduling difficulties or transportation issues also find teletherapy a convenient alternative to having to schedule an office appointment.

You will need a smartphone or laptop computer with a webcam. After scheduling your first appointment, you will receive instructions to access the teletherapy platform. The platform is HIPPA-complaint and allows you and your therapist to access video and audio conferencing for online sessions.

Teletherapists with Through the Woods Wellness Center are talented professionals who are hand-selected for your unique needs.  We practice a person-centered approach, meaning that we work on what you want to work on.  Your goals and objectives come first.  If what we're doing doesn't seem to be working for you, please let your therapist know and we will try a different approach.  This also means that if, after a few sessions, you feel you therapist isn't a good fit or that online therapy isn't for you, we will be happy to refer you another therapist who may be a better fit.

During your first appointment, you and your therapist will create a crisis plan should you ever need it. This crisis plan includes a list of crisis resources in your area, a plan for support and access to crisis care, and a personalized list of steps that you and your therapist may use to help determine the best course of action for you should a crisis develop.
